“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)
These words speak of a wondrous eternal truth. We are created to have our dwelling place, our habitation, within the intimate place of God’s Presence.
We are living in very tumultuous times. A time in which there is a constant stream of violence, rage, anger, and fear. A time of frantic, nervous activity. And, the question is how do we as believers not just cope with all the world is throwing at us; but, truly live in a way as to rise above it all.
For me, the answer is simple: we must come out of the pattern of the world system and engage a deepening intimacy with our God.
We can never know peace in a world of turmoil unless we first find rest in God.
I have been reflecting on the beautiful classic work, “Living Flame of Love” by St. John of the Cross. It is just one of the ancient writings by Christian mystics that call us out of the externally driven world of performance, technique, methodology, and the patterns of this world into an ever intimacy with our God.

There is nothing greater than our intimate union with God. We spend far too much time and energy on the external issues of life, and far too little time cultivating our life in the Spirit.
